Last week, the Falcon 9 first stage rocket blasted off into a controlled hover 820 feet from the ground, then descended back to the launchpad for a very soft landing. The Falcon 9 hover took place in Texas and was shot by some type of hexacopter. If I had to guess, I’d say they were using a DJI S800 EVO (not a GoPro).
If you didn’t already know, the Falcon 9 was designed and manufactured by SpaceX, a company owned by Elon Musk.
Just a few days ago, the Falcon 9 was also used for the forth Dragon flight to the ISS. after carrying the Dragon up to space, the Falcon 9 also attempted to softly land in the pacific ocean as a reusability experiment. The boats haven’t recovered the first stage rocket yet, but from the flight data it appears that the landing was successful.
