The AirDog quadcopter is a drone that will automatically follow you around while you concentrate on whatever it is you do.

The AirDog is a quadcopter designed specifically to follow you around at high speeds using a custom wrist band called “AirLeash” that you can also use to control the drone. To shoot video, It uses a GoPro camera mounted on a brushless gimbal allowing for very smooth shots of whatever action your trying to capture. AirDog can also be configured using your smartphone to access advanced features. If you want, you can also use AirDog with a traditional radio transmitter and receiver in order to do FPV (first person view) flying, just like a standard quadcopter. Although FPV isn’t a very great experience when the camera is locked on a gimbal (instead of being hard mounted), I could still see a lot of people using it on the go just because of the foldable arm and prop design.

How does it work?

AirDog is in a way, just like any other quadcopter out there, but what makes it unique is the software its running on. Somehow, the creators of AirDog took an existing flight controller platform (possibly ardupilot) and modified it to follow an object using a GPS signal (the AirLeash), while also panning a camera to keep the subject in frame. In general, I think AirDog is a really good idea, but what about trees? Let me know what you think in the comments!
