Update 2016: It’s been a while since the DJI Phantom 3 came out. A lot has changed since then and the Phantom 4 is now the new drone on the block. This doesn’t mean that the Phantom 3 is no longer relevant though. It’s still one of the best drones you can buy (as of April 2016). Watch the video above to learn about Lightbridge, 4K video recording and all of the other cool features that the Phantom 3 has to offer.

OFFICIAL SPECS AND PRICING FOR THE PHANTOM 3 HAVE BEEN RELEASED.
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS

There are officially two Phantom 3 models. The lower end model is called the Advanced and the Higher end is called the Professional. The only difference between the two models is that the Professional does 4K video recording at 30fps where as the Advanced only does 1080p at 60fps but no 4K. The Professional also comes with a bigger charger for faster charge times.

$999 for Phantom 3 advanced
1 hour left. If nothing else, DJI sure knows how to make their events look great.
Only 2 hours to go. Now we’re seeing boxes?
DJI just posted a picture on twitter with a caption in German. Translated to English, it says “We are already a while on the legs around to be able to offer you a terrific show.”
What could these new random boxes be? They not seem to be big enough for a Phantom 3, so maybe they’re just special goody bags for the attendees. Maybe DJI is going to announce something other than the Phantom 3 that we weren’t expecting.
17 hours left until the announcement and we have more leaked info.
Drone retailers are leaking specs of the Phantom 3, confirming that there will be at least two models available.
Possible names: Phantom 3 Professional and Phantom 3 Advanced.
The first model will have Lightbridge (Live HD Video), a slightly larger camera, optical flow stabilization, DJI Pilot app support, and a Lightbridge controller similar to the Inspire 1.
The second model will have all the features of the first but a 4K camera. Details are limited, but at least we now have something! Pricing for the two (maybe three) models will start at $1200 USD and go up to $2000 USD. Shipping will start anywhere from the end of April to the middle of May.
This information is coming from a pretty credible source so I would expect these specifications to be pretty accurate, but not factual.
Another Phantom 3 photo leaked (maybe).
In this photo, you can see that the Phantom on the far left corner has the same sensor as the prevues photo, but this time there’s multiple black controllers. Based on the color of those other two controllers, this leads me to believe that these pictures were taken around September of last year, back when the inspire 1 was still being tested.
If you didn’t already know, the original Inspire 1 controllers were black and plastic, but then they decided to change them to a brushed metal before the production unit shipped.
In any case, I feel like these photos are pretty old, and while they are very interesting, I wouldn’t be surprised if DJI comes out with something completely different.
Possible Phantom 3 photos have been leaked for the first time.
This Image appeared on the internet on April 6th. It definitely looks like a Phantom 2 Vision Plus, but with an optical flow sensor mounted on the bottom. If this is real, then the Pantom 3 will definitely fly better indoors than the Phantom 2 did.
There’s also another interesting fact about this picture. The guy who’s holding the rumored Phantom 3 is also holding what looks like an inspire 1 controller. Does this mean that the new Phantom will also have Lightbridge functionality just like the inspire 1? Maybe it will also be compatible with the DJI pilot app, that way DJI can focus on having just one app that works with all their new models.
As we wait for the DJI event, let’s talk about what we might see. One thing that impresses me is that so far, no info or pictures have been leaked about the Phantom 3 (or any new DJI product). When the Inspire 1 came out, we knew exactly what it looked like, and found patents of it’s design weeks before it was announced.
WHAT I THINK WE’LL SEE
Technically, DJI hasn’t mentioned anything about the Phantom 3, but that’s what we’re all assuming will be anounced, since the Phantom 2 has been out for over a year and the Phantom 2 Vision Plus was announced in April of 2014. Personally I think that DJI Will come out with multiple new products in the next two weeks.
In terms of design, I think that the Phantom 3 will be a quadcopter that looks similar to the Phantom 2 “but not exactly the same”. If you look back at the Phantom 1 an compare it to the Phantom 2, you can see that they resemble each other, but the physical shell design is completely different.
As far as new features go, I don’t think that they’ll be coming out with a system that has obstacle-avoidance. I remember someone who works there saying that they were still about a year or two away from technology like that, but then again, with DJI you never know. It would sure be cool to have a drone that’s self-aware of its environment.
Recently, DJI released a new set of motors and ESCs that are smarter and more efficient, so I would expect the Phantom 3 to have slightly better motors with realtime-RPM-monitoring and active braking technology for better precision.
Some people are even talking about how the Phantom 3 could have a 4K camera with light bridge, but I feel like that would be stepping into Inspire 1 territory.
OTHER POSSIBLE PRODUCTS
One thing that I’m almost sure about is that the New Inspire 1 camera gimbal mount (that cool hand grip thing) will be officially released with official specs, price and a date when it will be finally available to order. Honestly, I’m really excited to see how much this mount will cost.
