One-key-return-to-home is the ability for toy drones to return to their home point. This feature was introduced in 2016 on some toy drones and is currently only for marketing. All of the toy drones that say they can return home will not come back to you the same way that a camera drone will. Toy drones with this feature will usually try to send the drone back in your general direction, but they can only do this by guessing where they are. Unless the drone specifically says that it has a GPS, do not expect the return-to-home feature to work properly. All camera drones have the ability to return home and land, but because of the hight cost of GPS receivers, it isn’t yet possible to do this with toy drones.
Headless mode is very simple. Before you ask, It doesn’t mean the drone will decapitate itself! The term headless mode refers to the lack of a heading of direction when you control the drone. When flying a drone, the controls are always the same as long as it is pointing in a direction away from you, but if you point the nose of the drone in your direction, you will notice that pushing forward on the sticks makes it go backward instead. The controls for going left and right are also reversed. When you use headless mode, whatever direction you push the joysticks, that’s where the drone will go (regardless of what direction the drone is pointing in). This mode works by using the compass that is built into most flight controllers. This mode is great for flying if you don’t want to worry about what direction the drone is facing in, however you shouldn’t fly in this mode if you plan on flying other drones in the future.
Flying in headless mode doesn’t teach you orientation, which is one of the most important aspects of drone flight, so If you really want to learn how to fly, it’s good to stay out of it. It’s always a good idea to fly in a more manual flight mode to improve your skills as a pilot.
As crazy as this might sound, most toy drones only last a few months. Even if you take care of them, the little motors just don’t last very long. This is why it’s a good idea to look for spare parts on the models that you look at if you plan on using them for a long time. Camera drones don’t have this issue, since they all have brushless motors that last for years. If you want a toy drone with the same powerful and reliable brushless motors found on a camera drone, get the Bugs 3 drone.
The short answer is no. There are a lot of toy drones and most of them have terrible cameras. The main reason for this is because none of them have a gimbal, or any type of image stabilization. One of the best toy drone cameras is the one found on the Parrot Mambo FPV. The Mambo FPV shoots 1080p video, and although it’s nothing like a real camera drone, the image quality is a lot better than most of the toy drone cameras you can find.
Believe it or not, toy drones are not as easy to fly as camera drones, but they aren’t too hard. Anyone should be able to fly toy drones as long as they have some practice. The good thing about toy drones is the fact that you can’t easily break them, so you don’t have to worry about crashing when your learning how to fly. You shouldn’t try flying fast until you have confidence though, since most toy drones aren’t designed to handle high speed impacts.
The most durable drone I’ve seen is the LaTrax Alias. Just look at the videos of it and you’ll see people running them over with bikes! It’s almost indestructible. For a high quality toy drone, go with the Bugs 3. It’s bigger, faster, and has brushless motors that will last forever. Just don’t try crashing the Bugs 3 or it probably won’t do so well.
Toy drones have been around since 2010. Back then, there was only one ready-to-fly toy drone and it was from the company Parrot. The Parrot AR Drone was the first ever toy drone, and it costed roughly $300 USD. Since then, parrot has come out with many different toy drones, and hundreds of toy manufacturers have gotten into the toy drone industry. Toy drones are typically cheap quadcopters that you can buy between $15 and $300. They have very limited functionality, but are very fun to fly around, and great for learning the basics of flight.
There are some really nice toy drones, and there are some really cheap ones that aren’t so great, but a good cheap drone you might want to look at is the HASAKEE H1 FPV RC Drone. Although I think it’s a bit on the ugly side, it’s cheap, has a camera, you can control it with your phone, and it has a good reputation.
