Meet the Chocolate Quadcopter, a new frame design made entirely out of chocolate. Weighing in at about 1kg, (without electronics) the chocolate molded quadcopter frame isn’t exactly what you’d call “lightweight” but it’s definitely one of the more creative drones out there.
To make the frame, a foam mold in the shape of an X was used to create the general shape. Melted chocolate was pored into the mold, then metal standoffs were inserted into the arms in order to mount the motors. The frame was then put into the freezer for hardening. After the main frame was built, small chocolate cylindrical sticks were melted into place to construct the landing gear.
After the frame was made, mounting the electronics and getting everything working was just like any other quadcopter frame. Most of the electronic components came from DJI and HobbyKing.
In general, this is a really cool frame, but it’s not the “first”quadcopter made out of food. The first may have actually been the Pretzel Copter.
