Starting on December 21st, you will be required to register any RC aircraft with the FAA. The registration fee will be $5, but you will be refunded (if you register in the first 30 days). In other words, if you have a lot of drones, you should register as soon as possible.
If you already own a drone before December 21st, you won’t have to register until February 19th, however if you purchase a drone after December 21st you will need to register before you take your first flight.
If you live in the United States, take your drone and mount the batteries, propellers, camera and any other accessories that you’ll be using in flight. After that, put it on a scale. If it weighs over 0.55 pounds, then it needs to be registered.
You will be able to register here on December 21st.
After registering your drone, you will be given a registration number from the FAA. Once you have the registration number, it will need to be placed on your aircraft.
You must be at least 13 years of age to register, or have someone over the age of 13 register for you. To register, you will need to provide your name, physical address and email address.
