A Free Update Is Available For The GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition!

Today, we got a surprising update from GoPro. They just Released firmware V2.0, which will allow you to shoot with a variety of great new features.

Higher Frame Rates

Note: This feature does not apply to the Hero 4 Silver or White Edition

You can now shoot 720p video at 240FPS and 2.7k video at 60FPS. This is actually a feature that we were expecting to see in the hero 4 from the start, but it was left out for some odd reason.

Time Lapse Video

Time Lapse Video is basically a mode that takes Time Lapses and automatically turns them into a playable video. That way, you don't have to bring hundreds (or even thousands) of images into your editing software and render them out. You can choose from either 2.7K or 4K depending on how much space you want to take up.

Time Lapses might not seem like a useful feature on a drone, but if you have something like a Phantom 2 with a 3 axis gimbal, you can actually take some pretty cool aerial time lapse videos. Just put your Phantom in one spot and let it stay there for a few minutes.

Some Other Stuff

Other features were added, but they were just minor improvements. There's now an Auto Video Rotation feature that flips the video if your camera is up-sid-down, but I wouldn't consider that useful (unless you're mounting the GoPro in a strange way.

How to Update Your GoPro

To update your GoPro , first download version 2.5 or higher of the GoPro Studio software. Then launch the app and plug in your GoPro. An update will show up asking you if you want to Update. Before pressing ok, make sure that you have a micro SD cart inserted into your GoPro, then Press "Continue". After then the GoPro will start updating, turning it self on and off a couple times. Just leave it alone until it's done doing what it does. After that, you're done!
