YOU JUST RECEIVED YOUR PHANTOM 3, BUT YOU AREN’T YET SATISFIED. SOMETHING IS MISSING.

After receiving your Phantom 3, you’ve probably taken it out of the box, gone out for a few flights around the front yard and taken some cool videos, but now 20 minutes of flight time just isn’t enough. Now you want to go places, and do things, but you can’t travel around with the Phantom 3 without a case.

In this article, I’ll go over what accessories you should consider buying for the Phantom 3 and which ones are no longer necessary.

BACKPACKS

Obviously, you could travel around using the box that the Phantom 3 came in, but that would be like carrying your laptop with an egg carton. If you plan on going places (even if it’s just to the local park), then your going to need a real case to protect the Phantom 3 from getting destroyed.

In my opinion, the DJI Phantom 3 hardshell backpack is the most practical backpack for the price. It just recently came out and It’s the smallest backpack available, so it won’t look ridiculous on your back. it has a hard case design which will provide more protection from drops, it’s less than half the price of the older DJI backpack and the design looks slim and modern.

It holds the Phantom 3, remote, props, three batteries and a charger. There’s also some space for a small tablet like the iPad mini.

PROPS AND PROP GUARDS

Props are something you should buy even if you never plan on crashing, because the truth is, you’re going to crash. I have a good amount of multi-rotor experience, but even I crashed when I first got the Phantom 2. I also crashed when I got the Phantom 3, because it tried returning home because of a low battery while I was in the house (which was completely my fault).

Prop guards are another story. You don’t need them, but they can be nice to have when flying in confined spaces, or around people. In the past 6 months, I’ve used prop guards only once, but some people use them everyday. If you find yourself flipping over and having to replace props a lot, then that’s when prop guards are the most useful.

MOBILE DEVICE HOLDER

If you’re using a smartphone then the mobile device holder that comes with the Phantom 3 will work just fine in most situations, but if you’re using the iPad Mini, or even the iPad Air, the standard device holder will feel a bit unstable. If you’re going to be using a large tablet, or you just want a higher quality device holder, get the one that’s made for the Inspire 1 remote. It will fit right on the Phantom 3 remote and It’s made from CNC machined aluminum which makes it much more sturdy.

EXTRA BATTERIES AND CHARGER

You probably already have extra batteries on your list of things to get, but were you planning on buying another charger? When you only have one or two batteries, there’s no need to buy another charger, but you should at least buy one if you plan on buying more than three batteries.

If you own the Phantom 3 advanced, you might also want to upgrade to the faster battery charger that comes with the Phantom 3 professional. It will charge the Phantom 3 batteries in about 40 minutes instead of almost an hour and 20 minutes.
