The taser drone is here!
The CUPID is a taser drone (hexacopter with a taser) capable of stunning you with 80,000 volts of electricity. The thought of running from a flying drone capable of shooting you with electric spikes is definitely scary, but you won’t have to worry about that anytime soon.
CUPID is only a concept and isn’t ready for the real world. The demo model shown in the video is using off the shelf components (other than the taser) and is in no way capable of autonomously attacking suspects.
Here are some of the things used to build the taser drone:
- Tarot T810 Hexacopter Frame
- DJI NAZA M V2
- T motor 330kv
- HobbyKing transmitter
- 2 Turnigy nano tech 6S batteries
Although the technology for this kind of application is available now, it hasn’t yet been implemented. In order for drones to autonomously navigate, they’re going to need advanced onboard vision systems (similar to Google’s Tango) not only to track objects, but navigate through 3D space fast and safely. It would also need some way of remembering what it’s target looks like, so if another person or animal is in the area, it won’t try to attack the wrong person. There’s also obviously political problems too, but I won’t go into that.
Here’s the video of CUPID in action.
